Aims
This writing course aims at developing a deep understanding of the concepts and skills necessary to write in English for academic purposes as well as giving practice in some aspects of the writing tasks focused on graduate needs of English M. A. students.
Course Requirements
I. Class attendance and active participation (10%)
II. Weekly writings ( separate sections of a proposal, analysis of articles and proposals, etc) (20%)
III. Class presentation on the topic for research (10%)
IV. Delivery of the final draft of the proposal (20%)
V. writitng a publishable article based on the proposal (Optional)
VI. Final exam (40%)
Topics to be covered in the course
I. How to write a thesis proposal
II. How to write a journal article
III. How to write effective argumentative essays
IV. How to cite references
V. How to plan, draft, revise, edit, and proofread
VI. Some issues in writing such as cohesion, unity, coherence, diction, style, mechanics of writing, proportion, etc. will be discussed.
